Heart to Heart: A Relation-Alignment Approach to Emotion’s Social Effects

This article integrates arguments and evidence from my 2019 monograph Heart to Heart: How Your Emotions Affect Other People. The central claim is that emotions operate as processes of relation alignment produce convergence, complementarity, or conflict between two more people’s orientations objects. In some cases, involves strategic presentation emotional information for the purpose regulating other behaviour. consolidate socially distributed reciprocal adjustments cues, signals, emerging actions without any explicit registration communication meaning by parties exchange. relation-alignment approach provides a fresh perspective on issues relating emotion’s interpersonal, intragroup, organizational functions clarifies how are regulated social purposes.
